How to Install IPTV on an Android TV Box (2026 Guide)

August 2, 20266 min read

Android TV boxes are the most flexible way to watch IPTV: cheap, fast, and compatible with every major player. Here is the full setup, from a factory-fresh box to live channels.

Before you start

  • An Android TV box (Android 9 or newer recommended)
  • 10 Mbps for HD, 25 Mbps or more for 4K
  • Your Xtream Codes username, password and server URL

Step 1 — Connect and update

Plug the box into HDMI, connect to Wi-Fi or Ethernet, sign in to Google Play and install any pending system updates. Ethernet is worth it if the box sits near your router.

Step 2 — Install a player

Search Google Play for TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro and install it. If your box has no Play Store access, use the Downloader app to sideload the official APK.

Step 3 — Add your playlist

Open the player, choose Xtream Codes login, and enter the username, password and server URL from your activation email. The app then downloads channels, VOD and the EPG.

Step 4 — Tune performance

  • Set the box output to match your TV (2160p for 4K panels)
  • Disable unused background apps to free memory
  • Increase the player buffer if channels stutter at peak hours

Step 5 — Organise your channels

Hide the country groups you never watch and build a favourites list. Zapping becomes far faster once the guide only shows what you actually use.
